A glittering collection of the greatest sportsmen, sportswomen and teams were nominated for the 2018 Laureus World Sports Awards, following a global vote by the world’s media.
At sport’s most prestigious Awards Ceremony, hosted in Monaco on February 27, we honoured outstanding athletes and recognised the greatest sporting triumphs of last year.
The Awards presented included best Sportsman, Sportswoman, Team, Breakthrough, Comeback, Disabled Sportsperson, Action Sportsperson, plus Lifetime achievement, Sport for Good Award, Sporting Inspiration and Exceptional Achievement Awards, all of which were given at the discretion of the Laureus Academy.
Sports fans around the world also played a significant role by voting in a global poll for the Laureus Best Sporting Moment of the Year Award, which highlights the inspirational power of sport.
The Awards Ceremony, attended by the greatest living sports legends, past and present showcased sport’s incredible ability to transform the lives of young people around the world though the work of Laureus Sport for Good.
Guests including Roger Federer, Missy Franklin and Ryan Giggs were hosted by Benedict Cumberbatch with a moving musical performance from Emeli Sandé.
